Review: Gravitation

Title: Gravitation
Official Website:
Year(s): 2000-2001
Episodes: 13

Shindou Shuichi is a high school student and a member of the band Bad Luck. He's striving to make it big and become a professional singer but things get bumpy when he meets the famous author Yuki Eiri and falls desperately in love with him.

This was definitely an interesting series. We have the cute, but somewhat annoying, Shuichi who falls head over heels in love with Yuki, a rather cold and distant author. Upon their first meeting, Yuki is harsh with Shuichi and tells him his lyrics are garbage but from that point on Shuichi can't get Yuki out of his head. The series revolves around the relationship between Yuki and Shuichi and how it impacts Shuichi's career as a singer.

The relationship between the two is a bit odd though. Shuichi, for most of the series, is extremely immature and whiney. Yuki, on the other hand, is very cold to Shuichi and is generally a complete jerk and treats him like crap. I couldn't help thinking that Shuichi would be better off to just get away from Yuki, especially after having to see Shuichi cry over him in episode after episode.

There is a great mixture of drama and comedy in the series. Just when things are getting a bit too serious, Shuichi will suddenly be pawing away wearing an animal suit, providing a much needed break from the tension.

I really enjoyed the characters. They were all unique and had reasonably well developed personalities. Even the minor characters shined.

Overall, this is a great series and I would fully recommend it.
